“Drink It Anew”

I told you I wouldn’t drink this again with you
till we could drink it together in My kingdom.
Since then, you’ve been drinking it by yourselves —
or thought you were!
Yes, My Holy Spirit has been with you
to help you remember Me —
to remember what I taught you,
and to recall My body that suffered for you,
My blood that was spilled to seal our covenant.
But I’ve been with My Father, at His right hand,
waiting for Him to give the word,
waiting till the time was right
and you were ready to welcome Me again
as your King, the King of all the earth.
What You didn’t always realize
is that I never stopped being King.
I was King when the messengers said,
"Glory to God in the highest!"
I was King when the voice from heaven said,
"This is My beloved Son."
I was King when all of you cried, "Hosanna!"
I was King when the high priest demanded,
"Tell us whether You are the Christ!"
I was King when I hung on the cross —
even Pilate saw that, though he made light of it —
and the powers of darkness were cast down.
I was King when Thomas said, "My Lord and my God!"
and when the cloud took Me out of your sight,
and when I poured out My Holy Spirit.
I was King even before I came to you,
when light burst forth
and the earth was hurled into the midst of the stars.
I told you I wouldn’t drink this again with you
till we could drink it together in My kingdom.
But the Kingdom is here now.
The kingdom is here whenever you’re with Me,
because I’ve always been the King.
So let’s drink the cup now, drink it anew.
Let’s drink it together.
